Short-term disruption to routine blood tests

Due to a global shortage of some equipment used for taking bloods, all practices are being asked to reduce their number of blood tests by 25%.  If you need a test for urgent health problems, please be assured that you will still get one.  For routine appointments your test may be rescheduled or you will be asked to contact us at a later date.  We anticipate this to be a short-term issue and tests will be rebooked as supplies become more readily available.  We apologise for this disruption and thank you for your co-operation and understanding.

If you have:

  • a New Continuous Cough or
  • a High Temperature or
  • a loss of, or change to, your sense of Smell or Taste

get a test and stay at home for at least 10 daysDO NOT ATTEND THE SURGERY.  Members of the household must self isolate for 14 days and if at any time they develop symptoms must continue to stay at home for a further 10 days.  If your condition worsens or you are no better after 10 days go online to or telephone 111.

Accessing our Services

Welcome to Queens Avenue Surgery

Welcome to Queens Avenue Surgery which is located close to the centre of Dorchester and to Dorset County Hospital.

We are based in a beautiful Victorian property which is well equipped and modernised but still manages to retain its period features. The surgery provides ample parking adjacent and to the rear of the building with provision for disabled parking. Access to the building is through automated doors and there is a lift to all floors.

We have six principal doctors and a full complement of ancillary staff looking after the well-being of 8000 patients from Dorchester and the surrounding villages. Our Doctors and staff aim to provide a highly professional service but one that is offered in a friendly and accessible way. In addition to the provision of primary healthcare we provide referral to a range of complementary services including physiotherapy, chiropody, counselling and dietetics. Our nurses are skilled in chronic disease management and provide clinics for asthma and diabetic patients.

We hope you find the website a useful resource for information about our services and other health related information. We aim to expand the facilities provided by this site in the near future and welcome feedback from patients to help us tailor it to your needs.

The surgery is currently open to new NHS patients.
