Dr Des Ling

MB BS 1985 (Middlesex) DGM DCCH MRCGP

Des Ling qualified at the Middlesex Hospital in London in 1985 after which he worked in various London hospitals and in Germany. He has been a full time general practitioner since 1991.

He is married to Annette, a special needs teacher and they have four children.

Des is the GP trainer in the practice which involves supervising and teaching fully qualified doctors who wish to become general practitioners. Most of the doctors trained at Queens Avenue have gone on to work in the local area.

His interests include windsurfing, cycling, running and long distance walking.

Dr Rod Lewis

MB BS 1990 (Charing Cross) FPCert MRCGP

Rod Lewis qualified in 1990 at Charing Cross Hospital in London following which he worked in a number of London hospitals in various specialities in preparation for his career as a general practitioner.

He worked for seven years as a full-time GP in South-West London before moving to Dorset with his wife (an ex-nurse) and son. He has been working at Queens Avenue since 2002.

His interests outside work include skiing, food (creating and consuming), skiing(again), music and skiing (once more before the season’s over, if possible).

Dr Madeline Phillips

MRCGP 2002 (Sheffield) CHS DFSRH CIDC

Madeline Phillips qualified in 2002 from Sheffield University following which she worked in a number of different specialities before becoming a general practitioner.

She worked in Birmingham as a part-time partner in a busy inner city practice before relocating with her husband (Urologist) and their three boys to Dorset in December 2011.

Her life outside work is mainly centred around her boys' social lives – playing sport, having friends for tea and getting their homework done on time are her main pastimes!

Dr Alex Glover

MBChB 2009 (Bristol) MRCGP

Alex Glover qualified from Bristol Medical School in 2009 and worked in Yeovil for two years before moving to Dorchester to train as a GP. He worked in Queens Avenue Surgery as the Registrar and was delighted when he was asked to become a partner on completing the GP training in 2014.

He lives in Dorchester with his wife and they currently have one daughter.

Outside of work he enjoys spending time with his family as well as cycling, cooking, reading, gardening, home brewing, listening to music and playing the bass and acoustic guitar.

Dr Amanda Stubbs

Amanda Stubbs trained surgically and transferred to GP training after starting a family.  She recently relocated to Dorset from her GP Partner post in Aylesbury with her consultant husband who works at Dorset County Hospital. After providing locum work at Queens Avenue she joined the partnership in 2016.

She enjoys spending time with friends and her young family of 4 children, exploring our beautiful county and beaches. She recently started running and learning to horse ride with her daughter.

Dr Robin Birnie

Dr Robin Birnie

MBBS (St.George's), MRCGPRobin

Robin Birnie qualified from St. George’s Medical School, London in 2011. The sea air pulled him to the South Coast where he worked in different specialities before deciding to become a GP.  During his training he spent time working in Belize and New Zealand. This was both challenging and rewarding, helping him to develop the skills required to qualify as a GP in 2017. He was very pleased to be offered a Partnership at Queens Avenue Surgery in 2018.

When not working, he enjoys windsurfing, cycling, skiing, playing the piano and saxophone.

Dr Charlotte Higgins

BM Hons 2006 (Southampton) DCH MRCGP

Charlotte Higgins qualified in 2006 from Southampton and started at Dorset County Hospital as a junior doctor before commencing her General Practice locally. She worked at Queens Avenue as a Registrar and completed her GP training in 2011. Since then she has worked as a locum and at a busy Weymouth Practice, but is very happy to be back at Queens Avenue, she works part-time.  Charlotte very much enjoys being a Mum to her three young boys, as a family they love the outdoors and especially the beach. She has started running and keeping fit, she loves flower arranging and would like to do more of this.

Dr Thomas Loveless

Dr Loveless is our current GP Registrar who will be with the practice until August 2019.  He is a qualified Doctor, completing his training to qualify as a GP under the supervision of Dr Des Ling.
